Most Uncaria tomentosa products are simply dried, ground herbal powder, AC-11, on the other hand, is prepared according to the traditional method of hot water extraction which isolates the potent carboxy alkylesters (CAEs), the active ingredient in the plant, without using chemical solvents of any kind. This approach has two benefits. First it eliminates the undesirable oxindole alkaloids which can cause cramping and diarrhoea, as well as the high molecular weight tannins which act as 'anti-nutrients' by forming insoluble complexes with dietary proteins.
