Biocare was the first company in the UK to introduce Butyric Acid Complex which was originally developed by Dr Torbin E Neesby.
The fibre in whole foods, such as fruits and vegetables provides a food source for the production of butyric acid, a short chain fatty acid produced by the normal bowel flora. It is the end result of the bacterial breakdown of fibres, and butyric acid feeds the epithelial mucosa cells lining the gut wall. This is prticularly apparent in individuals whose health has been negatively affected by an implance of gut bacteria, poor diet and food sensitivities. The intestinal mucosal tissues are some of the fastest growing cells in the body, and butyrates can function as a primary source of energy for these cells.
